Description

Instant pot Hungarian Goulash is an amazing one-pot comfort meal. With tender chunks of beef cooked in a rich broth and seasoned with Sweet Hungarian Paprika, this is sure to become one of your new favorites.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds sirloin cut into roughly one-inch cubes, stew or chuck can be used as well
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 onions sliced
  • 1 bell pepper chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced
  • ½ cup red wine (can use broth to deglaze instead)
  • ¼ cup sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 carrots peeled and sliced thick
  • 1 ½ pounds baby potatoes cut in half, if very small can be left whole

Method

  1. Preheat the Instant Pot to saute.
  2. Add a small amount of oil to the pot once it is preheated.
  3. Season the beef with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Cook until the meat is browned.
  5. Remove to a plate.
  6. Add additional oil if needed, then add the sliced onions and chopped bell pepper.
  7. Cook until softened.
  8. Add the minced garlic and saute until fragrant.
  9. Pour in the red wine, and deglaze the pot.
  10. If not using wine, then use some of the beef broth to deglaze the pan.
  11. Cook until the wine is reduced by about half.
  12. Return the browned meat to the pot.
  13. Add in the Sweet Hungarian Paprika, oregano, bay leaf, and tomato paste.
  14. Stir to coat everything.
  15. Pour in the beef broth.
  16. Add the carrots and potatoes and stir to combine everything together.
  17. Cook on high pressure for 15 minutes followed by a 10-minute natural pressure release.
  18. Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container for up to one week.
